Il Caffè Fantoni

Cafè Fantoni in Villafranca is one of the most famous historical cafés in Italy. It was founded in 1842 by Giovanni Fantoni.

The historical Café Fantoni was restorated in October 1991 by three young men: Paolo Bazzoli, Flavio Bertoldi and Marco Boni. The new managers wanted to maintain the atmosphere of the end of the 19th century, but also to recreate the cultural climate of poets, writers, painters and journalists. In 1992, for example,  they held a special evening dedicated to some poets from Verona: Giampaolo Feriani, Bepi Sartori, Gianni Recchi and Renzo Franchini. In October 1994 an exhibition – “Children in postcards” – was organized. In November they put on a concert of classical music and opera. In December there was a picturesque Christmas concert. In February there were poems and recipes on the Veronese tradition. In May Café Fantoni hosted two poets: Tumicelli and Pretto.
