In the central square of Villafranca it is possibile to admire “Albergo al Sole” which was in the past the headquarters of the “Vicinia”.
On the façade there is the fresco of a coat of arms which represents the sun. This crest refers to the “Consortium”, the antique society of the original inhabitants of Villafranca, whose protector was St. Anthony.
This society was founded by the antique families which tried to protect their interests from the rule of powerful families from other nearby towns. This society communicated their decisions to the people from the balcony which still exists. As well as the balcony there is a plaque on the façade which remembers King Charles Albert’s stay there during the battle of Custoza in 1848.
