RENAISSANCE | |

During the Renaissance in Italy, there
was a great development of literature, of the
visual arts and of music. Rulers such as
the Medici or the pope fostered the liberal arts. In England, Henry
VII of the Tudor family was too involved
in more practical issue of rebuilding the country's economy, which accounts
for the delay of English Renaissance compared to Italian. Unlike in
Italy, drama was the most important and original
literary genre which developed in England almost independently from
the court. Great changes took place during the Renaissance, from a feudal
society to a more modern one. Geographical
discoveries modified the view of the world, new scientific discoveries
replaced medieval alchemy with modern chemistry,
the reformation changed the religious
view of many people in Europe, but in philosophy the concept of
microcosm and macrocosm of aristotelian origin were still held as
true. <---EXIT |
