The Miracle, Mystery, Morality Plays had a primitive style, characters were stylized. These Plays were a form of theatre in the modern sense of the term. Pageants were used to perform the play.

In Morality Plays, stories were not taken from the Bible, as in Miracle Plays, they were pure personifications of human vices and virtues. Morality Plays introduced something new: they used invented plots and moved from a world of ancient history into a contemporary environment.
