Giovanni Cassai, alias "Masaccio" was the founder of Italian
Renaissance in painting.
He was born in S. Giovanni Val d'Arno in 1401 and he died in Rome in 1428. Interpreter of the mercantile middle class in Florence for the realism, which is emphasized in his characters.
