MICHELANGELO BUONARROTI  (Caprese , in the Aretino 1475- Rome 1564)
He was born in Caprese , a small town of which the father , Florentine was the mayor . Subsequently his family moved to Florence , where he made his first studies and , against his father's will , he went to the workshop of Domenico Ghirlandaio.

But what had the bigger effect on his artistic formations were the copies of Giotto and Masaccio's frescoes and his studies about ancient sculpture, which was possible thanks to the collection of the Medicis. Even Donatello and Giovanni and Nicola Pisano have been Michelangelo's teachers.

He dedicated himself to pictorial architectonic and sculptural exploits , mainly moving between Florence and Rome , where he died on February 1564 at the age of 89 , while he was working at the Pieta' Rondanini . Michelangelo is the prototype of the modern artist , who gains authority with determinations even against influential buyers (like Pope GiulioII).
