VOLKSBUCH

The "Volksbuch" is a German book written in 1587 by an anonymous writer. Its only aim was to entertain people.

This book deals with Doctor Johann Fausten, who was born in Weimar in a farmer’s family. He dedicated himself to medicine, witchcraft, theology and astrology because he wanted to know the bases of the Earth. In a wood he met the devil, with whom he made a pact upon certain conditions. The devil made him live in happyness giving him absolute knowledge for 24 years. So Faust became his slave.
